Fish nuggets can be made with any round white fish, including popular varieties such as cod, haddock or halibut (I used cod). I do not recommend using flatfish, such as plaice or sole, as their flesh is delicate and does not hold its shape as well.
Although fish sticks can be a great way to introduce kids (and other picky eaters) to seafood, they're basically breaded, fried, bland-tasting finger food. Yes, the omega-3 fatty acids are a terrific addition to the meal, but the 17 grams of fat per serving (3.5 ounces) isn't.
How unhealthy is a fish fry?
The high temperatures during frying also damage the healthy omega-3 fatty acids in fish more than other cooking methods do (39, 44 ). In fact, one study found that frying tuna decreased the amount of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids by 70–85% ( 45 ).
