Mascaras are pigmented preparations for application to the eyelashes to make them look darker and longer and to make the whites of the eyes look brighter by contrast.
Extended use of mascara can lead to natural lash stiffness, which doesn't just contribute to more lash fall out but it can also increase risk of scratching the corneas. Better lashes are also not worth worse skin around the delicate eye area. However this is a real issue with frequent mascara wears.
The composition of Mascara usually includes carbon black pigment or iron oxide to darken the eyelashes; a polymer to form a film that covers the eyelashes; a preservative; and waxes or thickening oils such as lanolin, mineral oil, paraffin, petrolatum, castor oil, carnauba wax, and candelilla wax.
You may not want to part with your favorite tube of mascara, but we hate to inform you that it has the earliest expiration date when it comes to makeup. Mascara lasts around three to six months, and shouldn't be kept around for longer. Think about it: You're putting it right near your eyes.
