Choose the butterfly valve you want with more knowledge.
Wafer butterfly valve structure
The wafer-style butterfly valve is a toroidal body with multiple center holes without impact. Some types of wafers have two and some have four holes. The flange screws are inserted through the screw holes of the two pipe flanges and the center holes of the butterfly valve.
These valves have a flap-like disc (wafer) that is used to allow and restrict fluid flow. This disc opens in one direction only and closes under reverse pressure to close the valve against opposing fluid flow. Wafer butterfly valves are used for installation at the end of the pipeline.
Lever butterfly valve
Lever butterfly valves require a manual operator, they are generally called manual butterfly valves. Hand levers are common for small butterfly valves. The handle allows the valve to be locked in the open, semi-open or closed position. Advanced butterfly valves have long stems that allow remote operation of the valve when it is underground or in a pit.
A lever-operated butterfly valve directly drives the disc, which opens and closes quickly but is cumbersome. A butterfly valve with a handwheel drives the disc through a handwheel that opens and closes slowly but saves energy. Therefore, when the pressure in the pipeline is high, it will be very troublesome to use the lever butterfly valve.
